Please Explain Guiana for Me:?

I Know there is a French, British, and Netherlands Guiana. Are these all separately owned by these countries? And how are they still part of South America if owned by other countries? Am confused. Something that was never taught in history boook for me.

They are all present and former colonies of France, Britain and the Netherlands respectively, just like the original 13 states of the present United States were all originally colonies of Great Britain.

French Guiana is now an overseas "department " of France, governed directly by the French Government just like any other part of France.

British Guiana is now called Guyana and is an independent country now, after becoming independent of Britain in 1966.

Netherlands Guiana is now called Suriname and is an independent country now, after becoming independent of the Netherlands in 1975

All three countries are actually geographically located in the sub-continent called South America.

I hope this helps clear your confusion.

I think the Suriname is the Dutch one, but its independent now.
I think only the French is still a colony.
Its confusing, I agree.
Also since they were not colonized by Spain or Portugal, they are not considered latin... which is stupid since France is as latin as Portugal and Spain, right?
