Power outage in Costa Rica?
Is there a power outage in San Jose, Costa Rica, or parts of it? I was talking to someone in San Jose yesterday and I know, for a fact, that their power went out around midnight San Jose time... But is it still out?
There have been no major power outages recently. We do lose electricity from time to time and it can last a few minutes to an hour, but nothing like the problems we had last year.
If you want more information about Costa Rica, you can always try the TicosLand.com website.

Nothing serious for San Jose in the news, but there has been an extremely large amount of rain the past week, a lot more than normal, and it wouldn't be surprising that the rain caused the outage. Nothing lasting more than an hour though.
However it might be different on the pacific coast. I know that there has been flooding and there are probably outages there as well.

Nothing in the Costa Rican newspapers about a major power outage today. If it will still out, it would be mentioned. Power outages of several hours are not uncommon in Costa Rica-- especially in October when there are terrible storms or late March when levels in the dams providing hydropower is low.

I don/t think there is a day that goes by were somewhere in San Jose there isn't power outage ;-) . I've see one side of a city block with the power out and the other side the power on. Most of the time when the power does go out it is only for a few minutes, but it can last hours and it is usually caused by a surge in usage.
Also during heavy rains is when it is most apt to go out and that can be for a few days when lines go down. Costa Ricans just have learned to live with it.
