Rio all the way. Paris is not a cultural experience. Paris is a dirty city that is full of Xenophobic foreigner hater French who are incredibly egalitarian. If you dont speak French 100% you will be treated like an inferior from another planet. There are better wines in Chile, better Cheese in california and almost everywhere else on the planet women shave their legs and underarms. Pass on Paris. Look at the post card of the Eiffel Tower Save the 1500 dollar airfare, overprice food and hotels, take the money to Rio and party like a rockstar.

Both cities are beautiful. In Rio de Janeiro, you might have to be more careful of "muggers" and yes, why not saying it, "you expose yourself on the street with a simple camera" but if you think of those "dangerous situations", you never leave the hotel ! Just be "aware" enough to do some "sight seeing" and if you can, go and see the city of Rio with a "travel guide" ! I personally have been in both cities and both of them, are wonderful in their own beauty! Paris is very romantic and Rio is a passionate city with a lot of "romance" in each corner !

It depends on what you are looking for.
If you plan to spend a romantic and cultural trip, so go for Paris.
Want sun, beach, party on the beach, choose Rio de Janiero.
One point that you need to know, life in Paris is expensive but really funny and exciting (FYI, I am French). You will find lots of places to have fun and people are nice. Holidays in Rio may be less expensive.
I ve never been to Rio De Janiero but can imagine it. Must be charming as well.
