Rio or Cartegena for a beach vacation?

I am thinking about going on a little beach getaway, but cant decide between Rio or Cartegena. I was just wondering what othere peoples opinions are. I have always wanted to go to Rio since I was a childbut, it seem from all I have read that Cartegena is much better, and more people seem to enjoy much more. Thanks for the information.

Cartagena! Thinks have certainly changed. it's seams like the dangerous place to go is Rio, what a shame.

You will never regret going to the "walled city" The beaches are nicer in Rio though. The issue lies in the fact that Rio is VERY crammed with thousands of tourists whereas Cartagena is still almost virgin to toursist in comparison. (which means cheaper rates, goods, services, etc)

Good luck in your decision anyway.

Ive been to both. I love the night life inside the walled city in Cartagena. I would reccomend a Hotel inside the walled city not the Hilton or other bigger name hotels in Boca Negra. Also, if you want something good, go out to Islas Rosario. Ive stayed at the Cocoliso hotel and I loved it. If you are a 100% partier.. Try Rio.. but I personally didnt like that much.
