Depends on what school is hiring you. I studied in an american school in Guatemala city and the american teachers earned around $1500 plus rent. In these schools they ask for some experience teaching. The classes that are done in english are English, Literature, Social Studies, Math, Science, Chemistry, Biology.
From personal experience, teachers had a great time living in Guatemala. Although 1500 dollars seem very low to US standards, its a lot of money for guatemalan standards, so you can live very comfortable here.
