Should I go to Guatemala?

I have the chance to go to Guatemala this summer on a mission trip with a church that I am not a member of but have a friend who goes there. I've always wanted to go out of the country, but with a bunch of kids I don't know? And yeah, I'll get to help out people and it would probably be a good experience. What should I do? How is Guatemala? Would this look good on a college resume if I'm planning on going out of state? The trip is for 9 days. I have to have the deposit in by Friday and I have no idea if i want to go or not! Help me! Kind in mind that I'm in 10th grade. (Is that too young?)

And I would also have to raise $2000 dollars to go, and with the economy? Just a thought....

I think a missions trip would be great. It is structured and supervised. I am sure that you will be fine. It is a great country with very friendly people. I am planning on moving there my self at the end of next year. Trust me you will never forget this experience and shouldn't pass it up, in my opinion. Do a little research on the country. It is a beautiful place to go.

Guatemala is a bauatigful country but keep in mind that if you are coming in a mission trip you are goign to a very small & poor village. This villages usually lack a lot of essential services (water & electricity for ex). Think about it.

Yes you should go. My country is a very beautiful place, even in the poorest places it is gorgeous. Keep in mind though that its with the church so there little chance that you go to Antigua Guatemala or Peten. You probably wil have ot help ppl with very very little resources. Yes it would look good in a resume.You don't want to miss this, even though you might not know anyone in Guate. you meet a lot of teens your age. YOu have a blast. I personally recommend you go.
Btw, I don't think your to young to travel. This is probably a one in a life chance thing.

I hope you decided to go ahead and take the trip to Guatemala. I lived there last year for 6 months and it was amazing! Guatemalans are the most wonderful people! My son was 15 when we were there and he had no trouble meeting people and making friends. Guate is a very poor country so you should be prepared to see a lifestyle very different from your own. My trip was life altering. Consider yourself very lucky to have this opportunity at such a young age. I wish you luck!
