This is coming from a personal experience. Im fourteen years old and in seventh grade my class took a trip to Peru, 8th grade Spain and this past spring break we went to Costa Rica. These were the best times of my life. Your son is probably going with a tour group and that is the sfest way to go. There is so much culture you can find, expand on the spanish language, get to meet costa ricans and bon with classmates. When i went and i was 14 yrs old we went ZIP LINING and RIVER RAFTING. It was amazing! You should let your child go on the trip, its a great once in a life time experience. You wont regret allowing your child to go on the trip! PURA VIDA!!!!!( a costa rican saying!)

Happy
well, if it's an 8th grade trip than i imagine he will be acompanied by adults. and let me tell you it depends on where he goes ,like San José center. Actually he can go there with the 8th grade group, that would be best. (duh!)

you should definitely let him go, costa rica is a beautiful country and the experience will be great 4 him, there are a lot of places to go, buy, enjoy and have a good time, if u can afford his trip don't make him lose that opportunity, because it may be once in a lifetime. If u think that his mature enough to make an international trip, he should visit. COSTA RICA. Pura vida mae!!! Costa Rica is a trouble free place 2 go. Costa Rican people is just great. Go to paradise, go to Costa Rica. Pura vida

Would you let him go to Florida or Arizona on an 8th grade trip? Some 8th graders might not be mature enough or you may not have confidence in his chaperones. What are the kids like that he is going with? Apart from the passport, the issues are the same as any other long distance class trip. It very well may be the experience of a lifetime. Costa Rica is beautiful and compared to other Latin American countries it is safe. You can drink the water and eat the food because of a very safe water supply system.

The country is not the issue here, it is your son, the people he is going with and the things they will be doing.

No, he is too young to go on a school trip to a foreign country.

i'd say yes but just aware him that nature is fun but i bit tricky. he needs to respect it. waves, animals, rivers... but don't worry him

!!@!!
that is so young,i would only let him go if i went two,if there are allot of adults going, and your son is respectful, and is a grate listener, maybe, because that's no place to mess around. also, I've heard if you stay at a resort and use there Gide's,its safe. but i wouldn't do. you should do some personal research so you really know what your about to do.

sure, it will be something he will remember all of his life! Costa Rica is a beautiful country and very safe . I assume that there will be adults along just as there would be with any trip. Many people speak some English and he will be fine

It may be a once in a lifetime for you child. That's for sure. However, there are only so many teachers per student. On a trip like that even the "good" kids will find temptations. Being a teacher, I know that I wouldn't want to be liable for taking a group of students out country. I teach that age level too. I think that if there is anyway that you could go too you should. The school would probably welcome a volunteer chaperon. I don't know if your finances will allow for two of you to make the trip, but you would definitely feel better about it if you were there also.

IF you trust your son to behave himself and not get into trouble, then yes I think it would be a good opportunity for him. Experiencing another culture is a wonderful opportunity. I'msure the school wouldnt be planning a trip if they didn't think it was safe.

i think you should let your son go on an 8th grade fieldtrip to costa rica because it is a once in a life time opportunity to go with all you friends. And you should give him a little more freedom.

Depends on what exactly they will be doing when they get to CR!

There are many attractions that can be quite dangerous for adults - much less for young people - like their Canopy Rides, Zip lining, White River Rafting, etc.

But assuming that this will be a fairly "SAFE" trip if he goes I can guarantee you that he will have the time of his life as this is a Once in a Life time trip!

Generally Costa Rica is not a "Dangerous" place to go!

Beautiful country with its waterfalls, Rain Cloud Forests, Mountains, Nature Parks, etc.

I have been going there for the last twelve years and I have always felt entirely at ease and perfectly safe and I love going there for the time of my life!

VIVA LA PURA VIDA! (HOORAY FOR THE GOOD LIFE!)

Good Luck! - Don't let your kid miss out on this fantastic opportunity!

Danielle
yes you should. But make sure there are many chaperones with the children at all times. he will get a lot out of it and enjoy the experience.

If you can afford to send him...and if he has decent grades, then yes you should let him go. This is an opportunity that may not cross his path again and will be a great lesson for him.
