Should I move to Peru? |
I just wanna feel out people's thoughtages.
I live in Detroit, it sucks. My family is out of work, and so am I. I cant find anything. My folks are probably going to get a job out of state and move, and I dont really feel like going. I cant support myself here though, as even the best job I've found is only $10/hr.
So I got to thinking, while I'm getting my 40 weeks of unemployment why dont I just mosey on down to a south american country for a while. I could live off my unemployment really easily. Plus I could do some online work to help provide extra money.
I found a place actually and I think it makes a ton of sense. America aint doing good and if I'm going to move anyway I might as well move somewhere interesting.
I'm all ears. |

go and when you come back you will be fluent in Spanish.
NIce to learn another language and culture |

Latino

why not. If you feel that is what you want do it, life is too short to not be happy. People in peru like most latin american countries are very lively and enjoy fun and generally are happy. you should be fine as long as you dont flaunt your wealth dressing like a millionaire as many forieners do and then complain when they get mugged. Im sure you would agree that detroit has some dangerous areas, but you still live there. Peru will have some dangerous areas but as long as you do your research you will be fine. try learning a little spainish, but dont worry to much once in peru you will have no choice but to pick up spanish and soon it will come naturally. whatever your decision make sure you are happy with it, and do your research. latin america has alot of countries one will be for you. |

It all depends on where you go.
If you go to Lima Peru then you'll probably find that they charge almost the same (or maybe more) as if you were in the U.S.
You'll have to be careful when you wander the streets because you could get robbed especially if you show signs of being rich and a foreigner.
You better be alnost fluent in Spanish because if people hear that you are a foreigner You'll get charged double of what something costs when buying something. And if people notice that you're american then they will try to marry you for the citizenship.
Living in Lima is pretty much the same as living in the U.S. money wise bcause they're starting to charge in dollars :/
You could go to the sierra but you might not get used to that... |

Things you might take into consideration:
- do you speak Spanish? that would help but you do not need to be fluent, just enough to survive. When you come back you will have learned a lot.
- what kind of weather do you like? In Peru, summer season goes from December until late April, winter goes from May until late November, being June through August the worse months, it is really cold in Lima and the humidity is super high.
- places where there are a lot of fellow Americans and foreigners where you could feel a little more at ease: Cuzco (Andes), Macchu Picchu (Andes), Lima (capital city), Arequipa (south), Trujillo (north) and Iquitos (rainforest).
- Setbacks: I do not recommend the rainforest due to yellow fever, even though you can get a vaccination, it could still get you but not as bad. Tumbes (lots of dengue).
- Recommend: Trujillo, not as busy as the capital city but still have lots to offer, near beautiful beaches, friendly people, archaelogical sites, non-polluted, friendly people. |

How is your Spanish?? You will find in Peru like most South American countries very few people speak much English. The other thing to consider is that Peru is a very poor country and you need to get used to such things as not having running water all of the time. You have to be very careful as to what to eat and drink. It is very easy to get diarrhea and some people get really sick from it. Theivery is very common and if you don't watch yourself someone will steal your suit case, watch or whatever else they think has value.
Peru is a very interesting place to visit but I wouldn't recommend it as a place for a foreigner to live. |
