Should I up and move to Costa Rica?

I am in the middle of making a decision on wheter or not I should up and move to Costa Rica. I have my housing and stuff planned out so that's not a factor. I need a huge culture shock, and I'm bored with college and I need to take a semester off. Anyone been to Costa Rica and have positive feedback?

I have never been there but am a huge fan of having no regrets. i always think that when Im old an gray sitting on my porch thinking about my life is to know that I had no regrets. Whats the worse that could happen if you do move? if its bad just move back and pick up where you left off from. But if its awesome then you will be thinking yourself. it sounds like something you will have for the rest of your life always wondering if you should have went.
Get on a costa ica website for visitors. maybe contact the U.S embassy and find out what they say. Good luck

why not do a semester abroad in Costa Rica that way you'll be able to graduate sooner and get the amazing travel experience all in one.

You won't get much of a culture shock by coming to Costa Rica. You may like it a lot but it is very like lower middle class life in the USA. If you want a culture shock try living in some small towns in Honduras or Nicaragua. Costa Rica is by far the most "americanized" country in Latin America.

Costa Rica is fantastic, but it isn't quite as easy as "up and moving". You need to apply for a residence visa and be approved. You can stay for up to 90 days without a visa, and that would be about "a semester". Maybe doing an extended backpacking trip would be more suitable to your needs.

Yeah I actually just came back Liberia, it was amazing it wasnt as good as the Dominican but I went for a vacation. It was really peaceful great scenic areas. Very kind people even though they knew we were from Canada they treated us like family and that was not at the resort that was just in the streets. Over all I think you would love it there, I am in university right now and I decided to go down there on my reading week (sorta like March break but in February lol) and I felt GREAT when I got back.

It might make you appreciate your home more. In that case it will be worth it. I'm sure they will embrace another uneducated american.

Sure, Costa Rica has many Americans who retire down there or buy a vacation home because prices are so cheap.

Costa rica is a very nice place, but will your house have internet and TV? because not many houses in costa rica have internet.

It is a dangerous country full of beautiful wildlife, but also horrible people. If that works for you, fine, except to say my friend, a surfer, was fast asleep in a beach cottage there when he heard someone breaking in and he tried to bar the door, but got attacked with an axe and then had a broken arm, and needed to be airlifted to LA to have it pinned. His assessment: Central America is full of fascination, but the drawback is sometimes things like that happen to you and your only sin is because you are from somewhere richer and they think they want what you have.
