Swimming on Costa Rica beaches? |
We are thinking of going to Costa Rica, Pacific coast. I have poor mobility and want ot avoid beaches with big waves. Playa Langosta would be a good resort but sufers go there, which suggests that there is a big well. It is near an estuary whcih generlly means cold water from a river. Does anyone kwow anything about the beaches on the north west coast of Costa Rica? Or any of them? I have looked on trip advisor. Additional Details Thank you Douger. The resort we are looking at is near Tamarindo (sp?) Is the estuary there large enough for aligators? |

I would recommend the Flamingo Beach Resort at Flamingo due to fact that there is an walkway directly from the back of the resort across the road to the beech. And the fact that the beech is lightly sloped with very light wave action. Past that I would recommend contacting Jorge Menendez at www.emeraldshoresrealty.net, he has always been able to find me ANYTHING {within reason of course} in an unbelievably short time. He speaks fairly good English so communication has never been a problem and he's simply a wonder full person. I would think that if you needed a Lifeguard/Personal Assistant type person he or the resort could find one for you affordably. |

Playa Hermosa is a well protected beach, very little surf. But it is very expensive--- all of Costa Rica is very expensive.
Playa Herradura is also nearly a bay with almost no waves, just some ripples. Expensive also.
Swimming in true estuaries may not be a good idea, most areas have problems with pesticide run off, some have alligators. All have mosquitoes and C.R. has problems with dengue on the Pacific side.
No matter which beach you go to you can not expect much help if you get in trouble in the water. Few beaches here have life guards. So bring someone useful. |

go somewhere in Papagayo, its awesome there.
Tamarindo is cool, and has nice sorta mini-city life.
Punta Leona is a nice resort, you should look it up: www.puntaleona.com. it has some nice and gentle waves, especially in lower tide. price is not too bad. it is located about midway down the west side.
Jaco has huge waves, but big city life..
have fun! and be careful!!
hope to be of help |

If you want to go to Costa Rica's Pacific side and want some tame waters, you just can't get any better than Parque Manuel Antonio, outside of Quepos. It's a national park, and is gorgeous - really one of the highlights of the country. If you go, stay at hotel "Si Como No" - the most beautiful hotel I have ever seen, built like it grew among the trees. |
