It is a country in South America about the size of Nevada and it includes the Galapagos Islands. Their currency is now the American dollar. They speak mostly Spanish. In Ecuador you can see everthing from beaches to hot springs, volcanos, lakes, mountains, Inca ruins, jungle, and fertile plains. Handcrafts are inexpensive and the food is good. You should go there.

I lived in Ecuador for 5 years. From 1995 to 2000. It is a country of contrasts. Mostly rich/poor, but in many other aspects as well. The Galapagos Islands are the most amazing place on the earth! I have traveled in Latin America and Asia. They are the best. I lived in Guayaquil, pronounced why-ah-keel. It was hot and humid most of the year. Rainy season was an interesting time. Floods from nowhere, no rain protection was good enough. I traveled to Quito alot. Otavalo was a favorite place of mine. The mountains are very different from the coast. The economy, language and demographics vary greatly between the two. Once you make a friend they are your best friend for life. Making that conection is a bit of a challenge. I fully recomend a trip, even if just to see the sights.
