Here are a few places you need to visit:

Lago Atitlan (a lake surrounded by 3 volcanoes. There are several villages around the lake, the main tourist spot is Panajachel. Another is San Lucas Toliman.

Semuc Champey. It takes a while to get there, but you won’t be disappointed. I’m planning on going down there this later this year for my 3rd visit. Semuc Champey (a series of lagoons formed on a rock ledge over river that goes underground for 1/4 mile).

Tikal (Mayan Ruins) http://mayaruins.com/tikal.html

Antigua (Colonial City) http://www.aroundantigua.com and http://antiguadailyphoto.com/
Antigua daily photo is run by Rudy Giron. He is a very nice person and can give you tips on where to go in Antigua.

Some other places you may want to go are Puerto Barrios, Rio Dulce, Flores, Peten, Chichicastenango, Lago Izabel, Coban, Monterrico, Quetzaltenango and various places throughout Guatemala City. Enjoy the trip.

While you are going around the country here’s a website for lesser known hotels that are nice cheap stays.

Antigua, the zoo in Guatemala City is outstanding & the Children's Museum is super for adults and children - it's an interactive experience.
There are many other places also & we are going back soon.

Antigua is amazing.

Loco in SW Houston
In addition to Horses' answers, I would also suggest the Mayan Ruins. It will be hot down there so either way you look at it, bring insect repellent (they come in small plastic bottles). There is so much to see their that you really don't really have enough time to see it all.
