There are people living in the Galapagos islands?

There are thousands of people living there. Hoping to find work, people from mainland Ecuador have literally invaded the Islands. The Galapagos population has increased over 300% in the past few decades. The 1990 census marks the population at 9,735. Today, more than 20,000 people live on the Islands. The population is doubling every eleven years, which means that there will be 40,000 people on the Galapagos Islands by 2014. This affects the archipelago in a number of means. Aside from the pressure put on the natural resources, this large growth means that most of the garbage is dumped in an open air site and burned with no sort of treatment or separation.

Of course there are. The inmigration process is quite complicated even for Ecuadorians from mainland but each day more people moves to the Islands. The locals has a lot of priviliges.

Some islands, such as San Cristobal and Santa Cruz have small towns as well as farms in the outback, other islands like Espanola and and Isabela have very small population and other islands like Fernandina and Genovesa are completely uninhabited by people. Much of the islands are National Park and settlement is not allowed.
