Transit at the San Salvador International Airport? |
I want to go from Canada to Peru. I been to Peru many times but never took a transfer from San Salvador, El Salvador. But now I am learning I could save $200 by doing it this way. Is this a wise choice? I lived in Lima a long time but never been to central america. How is San Salvador (airport and city) compared to Lima? I never had a single problem in the lima airport, I always sail right through. Someone could be running with a knife and no one would care. All the authorities are kind and reserved. When I transfer my luggage to the Taca airline at San Salvador would the crew steal my stuff, hassel me or charge me about the bulk of perfume and cosmetics i have in there to sell in Lima? Never it happened in Lima. I been and lived in the most violent places in Lima and i am curious to know how this option compares. Whats the difference between the 2 airports in the 2 countries? Is it worth saving the 2 hundred dollars by stopping in San Salvador? Additional Details i will take aircanada to san salvador then taca to lima. i guess i need to collect my luggage in san salvador and submit to taca. but do i also have to go through customs in san salvador? that would be unnesessary since im taking a transit. |

Let me talk about my experience;
I always fly by continental and if I make connections
they transfer my luggage to the other plane since I give my
luggage I don't see it till I arrive to my destination. (but, you can ask them if they do anyway)
About to stop in El Salvador I think you don't have to go
out the airport only if you are going to stay; the airport is small
and is to much security avery where. Is good Option to save
money and see the beautiful small country in Central America. Because you will see it from the window, is really amazing!
nothing to afraid! |

Comalapa airport is fairly small.
One thing you left out was how long of a layover you have.
If just an hour or two it would be easier to just hang out at the airport.
Like any transfer the luggage should go to your next flight.
I have flown in there many times sine 2001 and have never had a problem with theft. you shouldn't either |

El Salvador its beautiful, but if you are not getting out of the airport, I will rather pay the 200.00.... |

I have been to San Salvador airport twice in 2008. I have always had a very pleasant experience. Though, it was my destination not a connection. My luggage has always been safe, no tampering. I dont know if you would go through customs due to a connection flight. Only place I have seen customs is when you leave the airport with your luggage. Again only a personal experience as my destination spot.
The airport is very nice, its small though. When i go through customs, its a red light, green light situation. So its just a random thing. I have never been stopped yet to open my luggage and never any questions asked. I have seen police walking with dogs to check for drugs etc. but nothing out of the ordinary.
I would say yes save the 200 and stop by San Salvador. : ) |
