Hi Kayla, you can group public transportation in:
Intercity transportation:
- Plane (http://www.aerolineas.com.ar/ http://www.lan.com/ and http://www.lade.com.ar/ are the most important for domestic flights).
- Bus (there are several companies running different routes, this is the most common way of transportation for us, the buses are comfortable and route are good, here you can find the companies leaving from Buenos Aires http://www.tebasa.com.ar/ The site is in Spanish).
- Boat (we commonly use boats to go from Buenos Aires to Uruguay, some companies are http://www.buquebus.com/ http://www.ferrylineas.com.uy and http://www.cacciolaviajes.com/ , there is an international lake crossing service/excursion from Bariloche to Puerto Montt in Chile http://www.crucedelagos.cl/).
- Train (we don't have a developed system as we used to have some decades ago, but there are still some services between Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata http://www.ferrobaires.gba.gov.ar/ , Bariloche and San Antonio Oeste http://www.trenpatagonico-sa.com.ar/ and Buenos Aires and Rosario).
Urban transportation: it depends on the city, I'm gonna describe transportation in Buenos Aires, the capital city.
- Colectivo (that's the Argentine name of urban buses, there are several lines identified with numbers, they run 24-7 and cost 80 cents of peso, about 0.30 US$... more info at http://www.xcolectivo.com.ar/colectivo/index.html ).
- Subte (that's the Argentine name of the subway, it comes from "subterraneo", underground in Spanish. it is the fastest way of traveling in the city, there are six lines identified with letters and colors, the cost is 70 cents of peso, about 0.23 US$... more info at http://www.subte.com.ar/ ).
- Tren (Train in Spanish. There are several lines connecting different neighborhoods of the city and surroundings, the cost varies depending on the distance that you will travel, more info at http://www.tbanet.com.ar/ ).
- Taxi (The most comfortable way of transportation in the city, the cars are identified by their colors: black with yellow roof. the have a red light on the front that indicated that it's free, if it's off, it's not available. You don't set a price before starting your trip like in other cities in South America, there is a meter that charges 0.26 cents of peso every 2 blocks or if the car is not moving every minute... there's a set out fee of 2.16 pesos when you get in. The safest way of using taxis is calling to a companies called "radio taxi" where you ask for a car. Example: http://www.taxipremium.com/ ).
Hope this helps and sorry if some sites are in Spanish... |

Well, it will depend upon your needs and the palce you go! main ways of transportation are plane, bus, and train.
Locally, you have taxi, "remis" (which are like taxis, but in some cases cheaper, and cars are not painted just like cabs, though really reliable), bus.
For example in Buenos Aires you can also have local trains, subway, boats (in specific areas), premetro (a sort of train).
In Cordoba you also have Trolley-busses.
You can also rent cars! |
