Yes, it is a beautiful country to visit. Spanish is the main language but the tourist areas, many of them know how to speak English. Knowing Spanish would be very helpful. I stayed mostly inland during my 1 week visit. Went to Arenal Volcano, then to Monte Verde and that's it. I wanted to travel to the coast but didn't have time. I heard the beaches in Costa Rica are very beautiful. However, just be careful. Everywhere you travel, there will be people who try to rip you off. Just be careful what you are buying and make sure it's worth the price. The country is still in the development phases. There's only a few main roads, and they have potholes. Many of the roads you travel will be on unpaved, dirt gravel roads. You will need to rent a 4X4 if you plan to drive to certain parts of the country. There are shuttle services that will drive you from one place to the other. The country is very rustic, there's no big fancy 5 star hotels that will accommodate you at all hours of the night. You will see all sorts of animals - frogs, leave cutter ants, howler monkeys, and all sorts of beautiful tropical birds. It's outdoorsy, lots of hiking, zip lining, and other outside things to do. I want to go back, to the coastal area. One day.

I go almost every year and i am only 13. I go to Turrialba. There are lots of things to do. Flamingo is also a great place to go. We(my family) went there and to Brazilito for about 5 to six months and once we saw a scorpion. That's just how Costa Rica is. It is humid and it rains a lot. Once in a while it is nice to experience a rain forest type of place like Costa Rica. I hope this information is useful.

Yes, it's safe. It can be problems in frmote areas, but any good traveller will be okay. Trying the language does help.

I recommend Monteverde & Arenal Volcano Combo Tour.

If your a surfer and the adventurist type, go to Golfito. Skip the drugs because there are DEA agents there in the bars, but otherwise, fun!

It's an aw some place to go, I've been twice , once living there. It is reasonably safe as long as you are a smart traveller.

I was in Costa Rica 3 years ago and we stayed for 3 weeks - I think it depends on where in Costa Rica your going, but we had a great time. We stayed at a surf camp.

i had a BLAST when i went there! I'd highly recommend it. go to puerto vejeo (spelling? it's pronounced perto vee-a-ho ) and it's a little hippie town on the Caribbean side. Costa Rica has a lot of "touristy" stuff as well; white water rafting, zip lines, tavacon hot springs, and if you go at the right time you could see the arebatha ( tons of sea turtles come onto beaches to lay eggs ). there is snorkeling and sea kayaking as well. if you like Eco-tourism there is a ton of stuff that you could do... farm stays, rural school visits, helping save sloths and other rain forest animals. also, if you can make time, be sure to check out the cloud forest ( Monte Verde ) it's gorgeous, just take a coat because it's chilly in the higher elevations! good luck, and I'm soooo jealous!!

I live in Costa Rica it is an excellent place to travel and there are lots of things to do.

Hope you have fun!
