Traveling to Guanacaste Costa Rica in May. Is it too rainy to surf?

How much rain can I expect? Will it be too wet for beach activities like snorkeling? I am staying in Tamarindo.

WHAT?? guancaste rainy??? :D of course it is not rainy, i mean it's the dryest Province over here, and i'm not saying it doesn't rain, but it's not as frequently as in the other Provincis. DO expect rain, but not heavy rain nor rain everyday (well....mayb heavy rain but it comes like once a week i should say, or once every 3 weeks) so, i guess u WILL have a nice time surfing.

guanacaste is much drier than the rest of costa rica. it will probably be dry for most of the day, especially in the morning, and when it does rain it won't be that heavy. and since its pretty hot there, i didnt really mind the rain much. mainly the water may be a bit cloudier for snorkeling than in the dry season, i wouldnt know i never did that there.

No, I´m from CR, and in Guanacaste never rains a lot... enjoy your travel!

Costa Rica has really only two seasons, wet and dry. And May is in the wet season. You can never say for sure, but it is usually 90% chance for rain everday at that time but it does not rain all day. It rains (pours) then stops and the sun comes out and repeats again. If you had a choice I would say go to Costa Rica at the end on November till begin of March that is the dry season. And less humid.

Nah...I mean, probably there would be rainy days, but u know, just in the evening and then the next day no rain at all, for example...it's the beggining of wet season and Tamarindo is on the pacific coast, over there it rains less than let say downtown San Jose...

i have 2 homes in guanacaste (coco) and it will rain but not much.Other regions will get soaked but not here.
try hitting up Ollies point and Witches Rock if you can.
