I spent three months over there with a group of students, and we ran into no real problems. I think the biggest problem would be forcing yourself onto the plane leaving Costa Rica. It is a once in a lifetime experience, and I'm sure you will enjoy it

justagorilla
Your plane could get swallowed by a huge alien spacecraft.
Armageddon could occur.
An invasion of killer cockroaches might carry you away.
other than that, you could stop worrying and have a wonderful time...

You might not want to leave.

to fall in love with a "tico" (motto for costa rican man and tica for women, pronuntiation is like letter t and add co) and later to know that he is married(it usually happens with foreigners, like any place to get assaulted if you use to show bunch of money(mostly us dollars) anytime and everywhere,to get drugged if you accept a drink or food coming from an estrange,to get 'robbed' by a taxi driver using the typical way of to drive around and around immediately they know that you do not know the area,do not accept 'rides" ,you know if somebody is good or bad only with see the local people around, they let you know through the way that they stare at them.

You shouldn't be running into any trouble. Costa Rica is relatively safe. You will be traveling in a group, and that is always good. However, please keep in mind that there are people who are always looking to take advantage of tourists. If you are young, don't venture off alone. Don't go to the places they tell you not to go. You are told this for a reason. Keep you eyes open and your wits about you, and you should not have any problems. Costa Rica is a marvelous country with lots to see and do. I am sure you will have a marvelous time.
You can find more information about Costa Rica in the TicosLand.com website.

If you have the essentials covered then I wouldn't expect any trouble. Just don't wander around in places you don't know or at night, no use courting trouble. Be sure to bring sunglasses, bug spray & sun screen.

If you forget something, nearly everything you need you can purchase at the local stores.

I can't really imagine any major problems that you could run into - especially as you are going with a school group and the hard parts are already taken care of. Relax and Enjoy.

Well if its your first time traveling to Costa Rica, it can be some small culture shock, here people are warmer and more used to physical contact, the food is good but I would not advise you to eat anything from the street, If you come in Oct- Nov, we would still be on what is called the "Rainy Season" so be prepared for the occasional afternoon shower.

Like in any other Latin American country, you have to have in mind that where you go is a factor related to safety, in case of doubt, ask, as I told you people are very friendly. If you have more questions you could check our Frequently Asked Questions section

The only real trouble you should be worried about is getting food sick if you are not used to traveling. Over 70% of the country has clean water supply, urban goes up to 92%, but still there are delicate people. Also if you use any kind of prescription try having enough in case of emergency, and bring a prescription note from your doctor just in case.

Have fun
