WHat is Costa Rica like?

My bf and I are planning a trip somewhere for one week in the middle of May. We are looking at Costa Rica as a possibility. We found a couple all inclusive packages to Liberia (Allegro Papgayo or Villas San Tol). We are just wondering what the weather, beaches and crime, wildlife and food is like there. Is it a good place to visit?? Has anyone stayed at any of the two resorts and if so how were they?

Costa Rica is a tropical paradise, plain and simple. It is also a Third World nation with lots of poverty. While crime is not rampant, you would do well to travel wisely. If you take a resort package, you are totally safe while on the premises.

I do hope you will take some side trips, though. The resort experience is very sterile and doesn't truly give you a good sense of the people or the culture.

When you leave the premises of the resort, you should engage the services of a guide who can drive you and show you around. Check with the concierge to make these arrangements. Use common sense: do not venture into places that are not well populated; stay out of alleys and backstreets. Stay where you see tourists. Be mindful of your purse, camera, backpack, etc. Don't lay things on the table at the cafe. Do not hang your purse on the back of a chair. Be wise and be careful.

There are a lot of websites that give loads of information about CR. You will find the people lovely and accommodating as tourism is a huge industry. The local cuisine incorparates a lot of local seafood and produce. (The fresh fruit is to die for and when you come home, you will no longer be satisfied by the rubbish we get at the supermarkets.)

The weather is fairly consistent: sunny, warm, pleasant with occasional rain each day. The beaches are pristine and unspoiled. Make sure you schedule a canopy tour in the rainforest. Spectacular fun!

I've not stayed at a resort anywhere and would not, simply because of the sterile environment, but I have traveled a great deal and am comfortable on my own in most places. Again, check the websites and check in with a travel agent to get more info.

I haven't stayed at any of the resorts, but I did visit Tortuga Island when I was there. It has the most gorgeous white sand beach! I've never seen a more beautiful beach in my life and I've been to beaches in the U.S., Europe and Japan. It's paradise on earth. I definitely recommend a vacation to Costa Rica. Other great things to do there include visiting the Poas volcano and white water rafting on the Reventazon river. I also hear they do great canopy tours in the rain forest.
Bear in mind, however, that summer time for North America is the rainy season for Costa Rica. It never really gets all that cold, but it's not prime beach weather with all the rain.

Hi, I live in Costa Rica and have had friends stay at the Allegro Papagayo Hilton. Which is a difference from the other Allegro. I have heard not such great things about that one, but the Hilton (also all inclusive) is great.
Costa Rica is fantastic. It maybe third world, but you won't feel it at all. Ticos are wonderful and friendly people, and in that area that you'll be visiting they mainly speak English so you won't have any problems getting around at all!

Plus, I don't recommend spending your entire time at the hotel. There are tons of great tours that the hotel offers, I definitely would look into doing that as well.

Don't worry about bugs, they are minimum there. Wildlife is great everywhere in Costa Rica. However, when you go to a national park you will see sloths, monkeys, a ton of birds and many other amazing creatures.

Crime is everywhere! That's the reality of the world. Don't take valuables with you, take only what you need and keep it on you at all times and you'll be fine.

Have a great time!!!

well... if u mean the REAL costa rica... it is beautiful.. friendly people... little towns with fun things to do...

but if u mean the costa rica I think u mean.. (expensive hotels in guanacaste) then is like a mini USA... full of americans.. no costaricans . fast food restaurants.. ect.. .. nothing to do with the costa rican culture and roots .. but is still... cool.. I guess.. I mean u won't see the difference between ur country and this one.. as I said... americans everywhere

I reccomend u go and see the real costa rica.. the little towns.. the amazing people..
