Hmmmm...I don't specifically know of a company that covers Central American countries. Here is the site for my favorite Mexican car insurance. If they do not cover Central America, maybe they could refer you to a company that does. The site below seemstosay ins. is controlled by a gov't monopoly in Costa Rica, but I don't know if this applies to visitors. 2nd site below has info for Central American car ins. 3rd site is my Mexican ins. place, if you need to ask them for a referral.

I'm not sure if that is possible. There are some portions of central America that are completely impassable by vehicle. Considering how much you would pay for gas, how long it will take, and how difficult (or impossible) it is, I would suggest shipping your car to Costa Rica via ship, you will save MUCH time and money that way. If you are just going to visit (not to live) then I'd suggest renting a car.

Check with these guys http://www.mexadventure.com , I know they offer Mexican auto insurance while in the country of Mexico... but maybe they have a contact who sales insurance for the other neighboring countries. Here is another great travel website: http://www.frommers.com They have a very informative site.
Just remember to be safe & it is strongly advised to drive only during while the sun is out. FYI - "as a foreigner in Costa Rica (a non-resident) you are allowed to drive a car with a tourist permit for 3 months without paying duty."

i drove to costa rica from seattle (via texas) and through mexico and central america. the pan pacific highway (number one) goes all the way to panama city but not much further.

since i was a passenger along for the ride, i don't know, but i do not think we had insurance.

people go down so very often to central america with cars in tow even!

i wonder if any of the US based agencies have counterparts in costa rica since so many americans and other foreigners live there.

good luck and have a great time!!!

Make sure you take plenty of cash for bribes. Plan on two weeks and only travel during the day. If you are driving a newer car or one that is not from Asia take extra parts like belts with you or you might be stuck waiting for a part. I'm not sure about other countries but in Costa Rica when you register a car you are covered by government ins. can't say for foreign registered cars.

wow, thats goin be a sweet drive. u don't need insurance south of mexico!

basically, you are retarded. There s no shot in hell you can actually drive to Costa Rica. Get your *** on a plane, it is a hell of a lot cheaper than even attempting to drive there.
