We are planning on moving to Panama with our 2 girls. Any tips?

To Chiriqui Province. Any tips on the drinking water, mosquitos, how friendly are Panamanians to Americans? We are moving for a year on a mission trip. Any tips are appreciated. Thanks!

first off, i'm panamanian and almost all of my family on my mothers side live in chriqui

second:
-buy land, its cheap
-the people are awesome
-bring or buy lots of mosquito spray and maybe a mosquito net....just in case
-the country is beautiful, make sure to look around the rest of it as well
-as for the kids, if they are old enough to go to school, they will most likely have uniforms (i know this first hand, I attended one when i was younger)

good luck :-)

Buy investment property. All of the baby boomers short on retirement funds will be retiring in Central and South America.

It should be a great time. Panama is a wonderful country and Chiriqui is beautiful. No problem with the drinking water in the country. Mosquitos can be an issue, but you'll be ok. What part of Chiriqui will you be located? This will have some impact on the answers.

Moving with kids is fine too. Panama is a good country to have kids. Check out this page about moving to Panama (http://www.internationalliving.com/panama/move.html ), somewhere in the middle towards the end it mentions living in Panama with children. Just make sure they pick up Spanish, it will be a wonderful opportunity to do so.....immersion!

There are lots of mosquitoes and people in Chiriqui are very unique. You shouldn't have any problems. Buy some property,it's dirt cheap compared to the USA.
