It is a nice country, with mainly middle class and some very wealthy and a somewhat large poor class.
It is hot and dry in most areas but also has some very beautifull areas like the atlantic coast.
They also have a problem in some parts with street gangs.

I live in Honduras and it is misinformed ignoranced like you just heard that causes all the misgivings for folks who want to visit any country in Central or South America. Honduras is one of the poorest but it is like any other country with both good and bad. There are many very poor people in the urban and rural areas, many middle class and a few more well to do. While the rural poor fare better than the urban poor, they all are friendly, clean, helpful, and cheerful. There are certainly more of them who would give you anything they have than those who would try to rob you.
Geographically, the country is beautiful, from the white sand beaches of the north coast and the bay islands, to the rainforests and white water national parks inland.
If you ever have reason to visit, by all means do so. |

I loved honduras! it is poor and the big cities are on the dirty side, but once you get out into the countryside it is absolutely amazing. I suggest going to the town on Copan and staying at the Marina Copan. The best hotel in town. Copan is a cobble stoned, colonial town that is in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by mayan ruins, and only 7 miles from guatemala. The people are amazing and the food is great. LIke most places, don't wander around a night, use common sense and be polite and you will never go wrong.
Also i used taca airlines, it is a central american airline that is pretty inexpensive. and when i went, the beer was free inflight!! |

of all the central american countries, it's the most poor and run down, people clean themselves with corn cobs instead of newspaper |

Surrounding the cities are very poor shanty towns, espeically Tegucigalpa and San pedro Sula.San Pedro Sula is also somewhat dangerous as well.
Outside the cities Honduras is mainly run down and lacks a lot of basic amenities. However in the rural areas and to some extent in the cities people are unfailingly polite and friendly and will often share what very little they have with you before theyd rob you.
Theres a wealthy elite who are a bit unapproachable and often live behind huge gates and or barbed wire compounds.
Honduras has a fairly small middle class who live countrywide.
Overall its a nice country, yes the poverty can be a bit unnerving at first but theres not a lot you can do bar help the local economy as much as possible.
As for the first comment ive never seen anyone use a corn cob for anything like that.!!! |
