You dont say where in Costa Rica Youre going...

On a trip to Costa rica we went to San jose the capital and the beach area of Manuel Antonio

In The Manuel Antonio Beach We stayed at Buena Vista Villas and Casas in a three bedroom casas, . All I can say is...WOW. extremely amazing houses, new, spotless, comfortable furniture, beds, strong AC, hot tubs on deck, 8 person dining table on deck, outdoor dual showers in each room, fabulous views. The monkeys are everywhere, but is you want to see them, ! Monkeys are early risers. could go on but it would all be good.
Staff is excellent, housekeeping does a great job, concierge is very helpful. They also put childproof netting along the decking rail for safety before we arrived.
Tule Cafe at Tulemar has a new chef and he is fabulous. They also deliver right to your door, so I was in heaven, since I had three young children, 8, 6 and 2. The free breakfast is at Tule Café as well and it is delicious. The chef changes it up every day, there is always cereal, omelette station, and fresh fruit. Don’t miss the breakfast. The Pizza from Byblos Hotel is really good, along with the salad and they will send your order to you by cab for about 6 dollars. El Avion was not a favorite restaurant of mine, it seemed to have mass quantity quality for the multitudes.
The beach is wonderful, 100% private, a little stream running down, kayaks, snorkel stuff, boogie boards, sand toys, rocks to explore, bar and grill for food and drinks. Take the kayaks out, it will offer you a view from the water and is fun. Lounge chairs and towels are provided and sunsets are not to be missed from the beach. Take the insect repellent because the bugs come out when the sun goes down. To wrap up Tulemar, it is 5 star, and would be in the states as well. Great facilities, great service, great all around

In San Jose we stayed at La Catalina Hotel & Suites
We had a great time and the hotel was beautiful, service was great, food was very good and staff was very nice and friendly and very helpful.
We are so glad to have choose this hotel and would stay there again.

Enjoy your trip!!!

With children in that age range you would probably enjoy Manuel Antonio or the Osa Peninsula area of Costa Rica. There are Attractions located all over the country, it really depends on what type of vacation you are looking for.

If you want beach and rain forest the above recommendations are the best. If you want volcano, zip lining adventure than you will want to check out Arenal and from there head to Monteverde for a unique cloud forest experience. If you want all- inclusive resort style vacation you will have to go to Guanacaste and the beaches on the north Pacific.

I recommend this web site as it has information on all the regions of the country and lists the hotels and activities located at each.

I was just in Costa Rica for 10 days for business. We stayed at the Marriott outside of San Jose. The hotel was very nice, it had 2 pools, a hot tub, a driving range, fitness center. There were some kids when I was there, but not a ton.

If you get a room with access to the Executive lounge, you can save some money on breakfast. In the lounge there is a large assortment of beverages for free (juices, milk, water, soda) and they do have a decent spread for breakfast. A few hot dishes like scrambled egg whites, sausage, french toast - it changes each day, but there are 3 hot dishes. Also they have some cheeses and cold cuts, smoked salmon, bagels, english muffins and sweet pastries. There is also yogurt, cereal and fruit (mostly American varieties). Coffee, cappucino and tea are always available.

One nice thing about the hotel is that there is a TAM tour office on site and you can organize tours and get picked up at the hotel. We did some of the more sedate stuff (older work colleague with me), but I heard the canopy zipline tour is very cool. There are also trams you can take if you're uncomfortable doing the zip line.

I wish i could tell you about the coast! :(

Have a great time.
