What's the accent of people from Costa Rica like?

I would say that Costa Ricans speak a very mild spanish. Not fast at all. I've never noticed that they drop their s's (like other poster said). They do use vos (a form that is more informal than "tu" but only if they know you pretty well, if not they use "usted").

The ethnic background of Costa Rica is comprised mainly of - Indigenous native Indians, Asiatics, Eastern European, Caribbean Blacks, and Scandinavian people.

Then to top this all off - at least 50% of them speak Spanish as well as English.

It would be very difficult if not impossible to give them a distinct "accent" as they all have a relatively "laid back" and enjoyable manner of speaking. - Its kind of low key and rather musical!.

To say that we "Take out the "s" from your words" is an offense to a TICO. Those are Nicaraguans. Actually we pronounce in excess the "S".

The accent is like Colombian, really neutral.

From 7 Provinces, One (LIMON) is Afro-American, it means that they speak English there. There are many rural places where you can hear accent like any other country.

Something important about TICOS is that it's really difficult to pronounce the "r". Words like Cuatro, carro, ferrocarril and others are really difficult to pronounce. BUT we never realize that until we are out of the country and someone makes fun of our pronunciation.

There are many words that we use, PURA VIDA is the most used word! that's why you are going to hear Costa RIca is Pura Vida. If you ask How are you? Pura Vida, How was it? Pura Vida. See you later - Ok, pura vida.

I just wanted to add that "some" people in Costa Rica do drop the s, mostly if they're from Nicaragua or other countries (we have a lot of inmigrants)

it's kinda like that of people from Colombia, but different , it's hard to describe, just very neutral.

depends the area where you was born or raisen,the most of the urban people have a strong accent on the s,the northern are rough or rude people(say otherwise,they have a strong accent and do not mention too much the s),caribbean coast:because of the diversity,the spanish is not very well spoken,they have english creole(mekateliu,jamaican english),chinese(cantonese and mandarine) and native language like bribri.the pacific coast,it is mixed with norterns plus,chinese(cantonese and mandarine),italian,and native languages:huetar,cabecar,maleku etc...the south is mixed caribbean and pacific,so there are different accents but today the usa english is widely spoken all through the country.

It is very neutral and easy to understand, they do not speak fast or with a lot of slang or eating half the words like they do in many countries. The Spanish accent from San JosÃ© de Costa Rica and from BogotÃ¡, Colombia are considered some of the most neutral. Costa Rica would be a great place to learn Spanish.

Take out the "s" from your words. For example: "Como 'ta u'ted?" I also know some who spoke in the form of "vos".
