What's your perception of Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia?

I'm Colombian and live in Chía, a city about 20 minutes from Bogotá. The movie industry has oftenly shown Bogotá as a terrible and ugly city, as for instance in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith", which in fact was shot in a little town in Mexico (I think). I'm very interested in knowing what people living in other countries (that have never visited Colombia nor Bogotá) imagine about this city, and hopefuly, raise some interest in knowing a little more about it.

I don't apply to answer, as I did live in Bogotá for two years because of my father's work. But to anyone that has not been there: go, despite what Hollywood shows you as "genuine" Latin American, which is always far from the truth. The people is nice, the food is great and it's a very cosmopolitan city. So, please, give Colombia and Latin America a break!

bogota is the most interesting city in colombia, lots of habitants, very nice

There's nothing wrong with Bogota, I mean there used to be a lot of drug hooligans running around with guns. President Alvaro Uribe has came in and changed this Colombian capital and the whole country in general into a wholesome place to visit. Don't think what Hollywood or some other entertainment media lure you into a false sense of security about Bogota's bad reputation; focus on the city's positive image. The place is safe and the people are very friendly. Go down there and see for yourself!
