My advice is to do an internet search of the places I will mention to you.
First off, Tikal isn't really a city. It just has a hotel and the pyramids. So you will want to mention Santa Elena (usually the drop-off point before Tikal, with bus stops and an airport). Also mention the small beautiful town of Flores. This is where many will stay. It reminds me of a Spanish-speaking Sicily. It's gorgeous. It is an island very close to Santa Elena.
Second, Antigua is reminiscent of a Spanish colonial town. The city itself is an attraction. I'd mention the amazing "Casa Santo Domingo" hotel (http://www.casasantodomingo.com.gt/english/index.html)
Even if you aren't staying there you can still eat there and tour the hotel. It's especially gorgeous at night when they lay our fresh rose pedals and have candles lit all around the hotel.
Antigua Guatemala also has old ruins and cathedrals left over from Spanish rule. It's like taking a trip into the past. |

Yes, Antigua and Tikal are tourist attractions themselves. Coban would be a good city because it has so many places to visit in the surrounding areas with Coban as the base. Semuc Champey, Laguna Lachua, Grutas Las Marias, Grutas de Lanquin, Lagunas Sepalau, El Cenote de Hu Nal Ye, El biotopo del quetzal, Chilasco waterfall (formerly the highest waterfall in Central America until a taller one was recently discovered), and Rey Marcos. Also, Livingston is a good base city with lots around to see - Siete Altares, Playa Blanca, Rio de Cocoli. Good luck! |

antigua is an attraction in itself, the cobbled roads, the interesting houses.. i dunno... i stayed at a resort there and just wandered around.. i'm sure i went some places, but i don't speak spanish AND it was when i was a little kid, so i don't remember much..
you've got all those mayan ruins around tikal, temples and neat pyramids.. like a mini rome.. , except covered in grass and not sand |

Tikal is not really a town, it's the name of the Mayan ruin site there. If you're going to visit Tikal, you'll most likely stay in Flores. |

Two major tourist attractions are ALL of Antigua itself and ALL of Tikal, which is an archaeological site. In the colonial ruins of La Antigua, most people head to the Cathedral off the central Plaza de Armas (which is now a park) as well as to the central tourist market in front of the bus station. Most folks like the trip to Tikal for the site itself (picture happy folks) and there is apparently a laser light show that is pretty neat. If archaeological ruins are not a must, then Chichicastenango and its weekly indigenous market would probably be next on the tourist "must" list. |

In ANtigua you have many attractions to see. Museums, churches.
If you want to see natural things you can visit coffe plantations, also you can climb Guatemala volcanos from Antigua.
Tikal itself is an attraction. Maybe you mean Flores Peten where the lake is. Then Flores Lake and Archeological Site and National Park Tikal. |
