Comment: I lived in Panama for 1 year and met a lot of Panamanians who have never seen a Balboa (currency) they say it's a myth! :-)

1. Rain season is very boring
2. They call Panama the 'Mosquito country'
3. Panama City is smaller than Miraflores in Lima!
4. You can go from one end of the country to the other in 6 hours
5. The people of Panama are amongst the best people i've met!

My 5 facts about Panama!

1 The Panama' Canal runs North South, not East west like many believe. It's possible in Panama to see the sun rise over the Pacific side in certain locations of the country.
#2 The canal is just 80 Kilometers from end to end.
#3 The canal is entirely fed by the annual rainfall that is collected in this beautiful tropical paradise in Gatun Lake.
#4 Panama is the economic powerhouse of Central America, and it uses the American Dollar as it's currency. They call it the "Balboa".
#5 Panama is a Spanish speaking country with a huge population of English speaking people after US influence in the 20th century.
Bonus Question!
#6 Panama just had peaceful presidential elections where the government is set to change hands again without bloodshed and violence.

Sorry, just to comment on the last person's answer:

There is no such thing as a Balboa bill, so no one you've met would've actually seen one. However, we use balboa currency coins as well as US dollar coins, which have the same size color, shape and width, and everybody uses both all the time.

And also, you can go from Panama to Chiriqui in 6 hours, but it takes a few more hours if you go from Darien (which is the other end of the country).

And I'm glad you think we're cool people...thanks for that.
