They also have ATV tours around Arenal volcanoe and I have seen a helicopter that gives rides around the volcano.

My husband and I lived in La Fortuna, Costa Rica for nearly 3 years. We just sold our property that was near the foot of
Vulcan Arenal. A must see is the La Fortuna waterfall. If you take any trips get an experienced guide. Watch our for thieves and there is also Dengue fever. Have plenty of insect spray.

There is actually quite a lot to do. You can enjoy the hot springs (Tabacon or the less luxurious Baldi Termales) and can wind surf and fish for bass on Arenal Lake. Volcano watching is an excellent night time activity. There are tours to Cano ***** national park (a wetland) that are quite interesting. If you like adventure, there is excellent mountain biking and canyoning. There is also white water rafting on the Sarpiqui river.

As already suggested, go to the La Fortuna Waterfall. I have a site with detailed instructions on how to get there, as well as pictures and a video to get a sneak peek.

With that said, you should also schedule a day trip package to see to the Tabacón resort with dinner a guided forest hike included. These packages are available at all hotels and run between $65-$85. All of the tours are pretty much the same thing (run by a few local operators) but the price difference depends on the commissions that the hotels take.

If you want to explore the differences between different hot springs resorts around La Fortuna (most tourists only get the chance to go to one) I made a hot springs comparison chart:

Have a great trip!

There is lots to do, many tours, but the best things to do and see is the Arenal volcano eruptions and a hike through the park and dry lava, also the hot water springs are great!
La Fortuna is a nice clean town with lots of souvenir shops, hotels and restaurant/bars.
