I just came back from a trip to Ecuador last week. We did the Galapagos for 3 1/2 days, then went to Quito, the Equator, Otavalo (Indian village), Cuicocha crater lake, Cotopaxi region famous for the volcano, Riombaba (another cool town) took the devil's nose train ride (A MUST) and then drove the Guayaquil. It was the best trip ever. I would try to see as much of the country as you can since it has so much to offer. We were there for two weeks and never made it to the Amazon. If you do any of the big cities - go for just a day or so, no more. The coolest places are in the smaller towns - my opinion. Def...don't leave out the Galapagos. |

* Galapagos Islands, especially Isla Isabela with Sierra Negra volcano
* Baños - lot of things to do (waterfalls tour, zoo, rafting, canyoning, cycling, etc.)
* Cotopaxi - for about 40 USD you can get to 4500 m above sea level in a 4x4 car and continue walking little bit up to about 4800-5000!! It's amazing.
* Salinas - beaches, great seafood (ceviches)
* Mitad del Mundo (Middle of the World), near Quito - a monument, but especially the museum or whatever it is... just about 200-300 meters after the entrance to monument... great place for proving you are at equator - with a lot of experiments
* Cuicocha lake on top of Cotacachi volcano - beautiful!!!
and many others... there are many agencies that offers tours or u can go by yourself |
