I've been to Peru, and it's great. You get the ocean, rainforest, desert, and mountains all in that one country.
Cusco and Machu Picchu are a must. It's best to fly into Cusco and take a day or so to acclimatize to the altitude. Go with a guided tour, so they can show you the ruins away from the city, and then take you to Machu Picchu by train.
Nazca is a lesser-known, but also very interesting, city. It's in the desert (about a 6 hour bus ride from Lima). They have some really interesting designs drawn into the sand/rock that are huge-- they can be seen from the air (you can get a ride in a small plane to see them from above), and their origin is unknown. Some say people made them (thousands of years ago) to communicate with gods/extraterrestrial life forms, and other more kooky people say they were actually drawn by aliens!
Have a great trip! |

What the other two say is good ..I also visited the Iguazu Falls (water falls) and found them fantastic. They are on the Parana River due west of the Brazilian city of Curitiba. Though I visited them from the Argentine side. |

I have to say the Christ Redeemer (Cristo Redentor) Statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. It is breath-taking...and really the only place I've been in South America is Brazil. It was gorgeous though.
Oh yeah, and I'm not a hardcore Christian or something...the Statue was truly amazing, whether you are a follower of Jesus or not. The beaches in Brazil aren't too shabby either!! |

There are so many places in South America you can visit, and you will have plenty of time...here are just a few:
Cartagena and Santa Marta, Colombia
Machu Pichu, Peru
Guayaquil, Ecuador
Maracaibo, Venezuela
Punta del Este, Uruguay
Buenos Aires and Patagonia, Argentina
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Santa Cruz, Bolivia
ViƱa del Mar, Chile
There is a place in almost all of South America for you to visit.
You can also visit one place in each country and you will be able to find other hidden jewels that you dont hear about very often.
There are tons of places to see... you will be amazed at what you find. The ones listed above are outstanding... Good luck! |
