don't even consider San Jose to be any less than an USA city.....they have the same things here............we aren't backward here as your question suggests

you can pretty much do anything here you can in the states.
here are some malls, that each have big movie theatres with movies in english and spanish:
San Pedro Mall
Mulitplaza del Este
Multiplaza de Escazu.
These are all within very close distance of san jose downtown, if thats where you are staying.
There are also many restaurants, bars, and discos.
stay safe!
don't go where you don't know and only carry what you need.
but dont worry, its awesome

you can also go into any hotel and find brochures on what to do within close and far proximity to the city, maybe that will help. :)

You will be able to do anything that you would in any major city, such as party, dance, sing, drink, visit museums, walk around town, art galleries, clubs, sight seeing, visit parks, movies, theatre, shopping etc.
