San Andres Island is great. Cartagena is hard to beat for night life or great people. Bogota has the best night life. (Zona T or Andre Carne De Res) Colombian people and outgoing, funny and love to party. No one ive ever met can put away more alcohol than my tiny mother in law. There is much to see.. Zipaquira, The Gold museum, Monserrate, the Colpatria tower, Piedras de tunja, Eje cafetero, popayan, vila de leiva, the ostrich farm near there, the fossils, the monument to fertility. the mini stonhenge. The scary airport at pasto. Ciudad perdida, Tanganga, Whales and monkeys at Gorgona. San Augustin. Putomayo. Puerto Leguizamo, Leticia and monkey island. The Kualamana at Melgar, Confacundia in Giradot. The list could go on forever. Colombia is a great place |

forget about the drugs, the "insecurity" and everything bad you might have heard about Colombia, I think is one of the coolest countries of the world!
Fact: Colombians are the nicest people you´ll ever meet
Fact: Bogotá is one of my favorite cities in the wolrd! So much safer that other capitals, fantastic weather, tons of things to do
Fact: The colombian Coast (Barranquilla, Santa marta, cartagena) is amazing, beaches there are to die for... Tayrona national Park is one of the coolest places I have ever been to!
Fact: Juan Valdez is sooo much better than Starbucks
Fact: "The only risk if visiting Colombia is wanting to stay" (official promotion)
Fact: Colombian rum is really good, specially Ron Antigua de Caldas
Fact: A "bandeja paisa" (national dish) is just too big for one person!
Fact: There is indeed a drug problem, but it is nothing compare with all the nice things from this country |

Colombia is a beautiful country filled with wonderful caring people. It is unfortunate that a stereotype from the past continues to dominate outsider's opinions and thoughts about this enchanting land.
I have traveled throughout Latin America and Europe and this is one of my favorite countries in the world. For anyone with an open mind, I highly recommend exploring this overlooked destination.
Some highlights of the country:
1) Cartagena - Located on the northern coast of Colombia this city is the second oldest European settlement in the country. Filled with Spanish colonial architecture, this was the place that the Spaniards took most of their gold out of South America. As a result, it was the scene of many famous pirate attacks. Now, it has become an international tourism destination filled with exquisite restaurants, boutique shops, and artisan offerings.
2) Bogota - Capital city of Colombia. Has all of the things you would expect in a large metropolitan area, and a few that you would not. For example, there are over 300 miles of bike paths that line the city. If you come here, make sure to take the cable car up to the top of Montserrate, where the view of the city below is spectacular.
3) Medellin - Known as the 'City of Eternal Spring' due to its temperate climate. While it is located very close to the equator, this city's elevation (around 5,000 feet above sea level) leads it to have a very pleasant climate year round. When it rains, the locals are know to say, "We're having a little bit of winter today." Highlights in Medellin include the Flower Festival (week long party, and some of the most beautiful orchids you have ever seen) in early August and Colombia Moda (well attended fashion show) in July.
4) Parque Tayrona - National park located outside of Santa Marta. Lush tropical jungle leading to white sand beaches and inviting Caribbean waves to swim in. Hike in and camp on the beach and dine on coconuts from the trees all around. Amazing.
5) Coffee country - Obviously well known for it's coffee, a visit to this region of the country is worthwhile. Enjoy the 'finca' lifestyle and get some of the freshest coffee you can find.
These are just a few of the things I have enjoyed in my time here. This list only scratches the surface, trust me. For those who want to see something truly unique, this is the place. |

Colombia is bordered by Venezuela, Ecuador, Brazil, Peru and the Caribbean sea, the capital is Bogota, some other important cities are Medellin, Cali, Cartagena, Barranquilla, Santa Marta, Pasto, Ipiales and Armenia.
There is a large problem with Drugs and cartels, corruption because of the large amounts of money involved as well as poverty in some areas.
Coffee is the main product and considered one of the best coffees in the world along with Costa Rica and Brazil.
Colombia is also one of the countries with the most prettiest women.

It is a tropical country at the north end of South America. There is an old but still-working oil refinery in Barrancabermeja. The Magdalena River flows through part of Colombia. A couple of other cities are Medellin and Barranquilla. They grow coffee in Colombia. There is a problem with drugs, particularly criminals who grow coca, and make and export cocaine. |

I WISH more people would look it up on the web.
There are more kidnappings and killings and murder than any other nation on earth. In Colombia.
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2007/10/07/MNBGSGDTM.DTL

Even dogs are kidnapped in Colombia:
http://colombiaherald.wordpress.com/2007/07/07/colombians-protest-against-kidnappings/
Every month I see a news report about some mother, crying about her lost / disappered son. Last seen at work, then never heard of again. COLOMBIA. Worse than Northern Ireland ever was.
Colombia is the armpit of civilization in South America.
Nobody objects to a Hollywood film where Colombian drug dealers are killed. Hey, kill more, please (in a ficticious film, that is)
Please give me all the thumbs down you'd like. Then read this COLOMBIAN newspaper article. I've given sources for all my claims here:
