Tres Leches is a delicious dessert made with spongy cake soaked in three types of milk, sweetened condensed, evaporatedm milk, and cream or whole milk. VERRRY tasty.

Gallo Pinto for breakfast is rice n beans, eggs, fried plantains, natilla (sour cream) or cheese. You will not be able to avoid this meal as it is sold EVERYWHERE.

Cacique is the national liquor made from sugar cane, worth a try but i dont drink it often.

Bavaria is the nicest quality local beer. Imperial is smooth, little flavour more like budweiser, pilsen has a distinct flavour very selective to the drinker

Arroz con Pollo is like a national dish, instead of turkey on Christmas day they have a big tasty portion of this dish.

Empanadas are my FAVOURITE! Cheap and tasty corn meal pocket filled with chicken or potatoes or cheese.

gallo pinto

(rice and beans to you gringos, but some of them do it very well)

The other thing I really liked were papusas, but I think they actually come from El Salvador.

Gallo Pinto (rice and beans), ceviche (raw fish marinated in lemon), imperial (best beer!), in the caribbean coast there's a different kind of gallo pinto it's made with coconut milk, u should try that 1 too

Casados are going to be the most typical dish you will find in Costa. Its a meal served for lunch and dinner. It has rice and beans (served with about any meal) with pork, beef, fish or chicken and usually served with a little salad or fried plantains. I ate one about everyday since almost every restaurant serves them.
There are tons of really good restaurants in every town you will go to and most of them are pretty darn good. Cheap as well due to the third world country status. I'm going back for my fourth trip in Oct-Nov and can't wait to have another memorable time. Eat up and enjoy!

I'm from costa rica, we eat rice and beans every day, for breakfast just bread and coffee. if you like corn, you should go to the" feria del maiz" everything is made out of corn, is my favorite. our typical dish is "gallo pinto" this is just rice and beans together. we don't eat a lot of meat, or burges, but you can go to mc. donalds.
