Gallo Pinto (a rice and black bean dish) is the national dish. They have AMAZING fresh fruit, many of them I had never had before. Tres Leches (a pudding like cake) is a pretty popular dessert too. Great fish, not a lot of red meat. Lastly YUCA.... freaking amazing! Best of all since most of it is fresh it is good for your. I lost weight in CR and I ate WAY more than I do here in the USA but that is because it is less meat and breads.

Gallopinto.

Costa Rican cuisine is known for being tasty, yet fairly mild, with high reliance on fresh fruits and vegetables. The main staple, known as gallo pinto, consists of rice and black beans, which in many households is eaten at all three meals during the day.

Gallo pinto is also known in some Southern Areas of Costa Rica as burra, though still recognized the name is rarely used as it is mostly referred to as gallo pinto. Also, Costa Rican gallo pinto is made with black beans, while Nicaraguans use red beans traditionally.

lunch, the traditional national dish is called a casado. It again consists of rice and beans, though this time they are served side by side instead of mixed. There will generally be some type of meat (carne asada, fish, pork chop or chicken) and a salad to round out the dish. There may also be some extras like fried plantain, a slice of white cheese, and/or corn tortillas in accompaniment.

Fresh vegetables are a primary ingredient in most main dishes, and members of the squash family are particularly common. These include varieties such as zucchini, zapallo, chayote, and ayote. Potato, onion, and red pepper are other common ingredients.

Keep in mind..Lizano sauce is very important and its what gives costarican food that unique Delicious flavor.

Gallo Pinto is like the best ever! Basically its rice and beans with some onion in it. It's served at nearly every meal, sometimes with sweet cream.

Papaya at like every meal, so sick of papaya.

Guanabana, heaven's fruit! If only you could get the real thing in the states!
