There are so many things to do in and around Cuenca. For example, if you want to visit historic places, or if you like dining out to delight your palate with delicious traditional dishes, you would probably want to go to down town Cuenca. If you like adventure, Cuenca is surrounded by mountains where you can do either hiking, mountain biking, or mountain climbing. You can also visit a great number of archaeological places. In other words, you will find so many things to do in that amazing city that you would not have time to get bored. I am giving you a link to the official guide to Cuenca, where you will find more details about the city, and what to do while visiting.

Good luck!

in cuenca you have the cathedral that is really really nice. you have the central bank museum and there you have also some ruins of indian constructions. you can visit the rivers (4 in total) that are crossed by nice and old bridges. near cuenca you have "el cajas" national park. it is a moor that is over the 4000m over the sea level. it is really cold but beautiful. also you have ingapirca ruins. it is an inca palace that is in perfect conditions. that is a brief summay of what you can do in cuenca. i hope it helps you

Both of my daughters-in-law are from Ecuador. (Cuenca/Quito) It's too late to call them now to ask them what places you should see. Maybe I can add on to this answer tomorrow.
