I would definitely hit Colombia. Cartagena is a beautiful city and if you stay in the old town, you really get the feel of Colombia and an idea of what the city was like in the colonial days. Also, you should check out Santa Marta on the coast and from there you can go on a trek to Ciudad Perdida. It's an amazing journey and not that expensive. You get to see the beautiful Colombian Jungle and meet some great people and see a beautiful lost civilization that's not overrun by tourists.
Ecuador is a must-see. There are so many things to see and do there. Apart from the Galapagos, you can visit the coast, Montenita, the rainforest, Cotopaxi Volcano, hot springs in Banos, and visit the equator outside of Quito. Plus, Ecuador is very easy to get around via bus and relatively inexpensive.
Patagonia in Argentina is definitely a must-see, I've never been, but my boyfriend has and he says it's one of his favorite places he's ever been and he's been to over 40 countries. He would highly recommend Iguazu Falls as well.
I personally love Buenos Aires, I think it's a great city. We had a lot of fun there.
Well, that about sums up where I would recommend. Hope it helps! |

There are many many sights to see in South America. You are right thought, Machu Picchu is probably the best. Sugar Loaf and Corcovado are probably the most popular in Brasil, along with the Amazon. Angel Falls and the Table Top Mountains in Venezuela. Buenos Aires is a beautiful city. The coast line of Chile. Patagonia. I could go on and on. The best thing to do is for you to research yourself and see what catches your eye. |
