What central American country is the safest to be in?

According to the CIA, it seems like all of them are crime-infested.

costa rica hands down. and yes. they all are. but costa rica is probably one of the least beautiful of them.

My parents are Nicaraguan, but i don't think its safe.

Costa Rica is by far the safest Central American country to be in. The crime rate in general is lower, you can travel safely if you are a tourist and look like one. Of course there is crime but if you use common sense then you shouldn't´t have any problems.

Costa Rica - it is not crime-infested. They have crime, but it's paradise compared to the crime rate in any large US city. You just have to use common sense. Such as: don't whip out a wad of cash on a busy street corner, don't wander downtown San Jose after dark, don't get drunk and pass out in a bar with a full wallet. You know, common sense.

I've been multiple times, and never even got pick-pocketed.

I have a friend from Nicaragua and he says its safe there...people go there...the war is over lol

The Central American countries with the lowest crime rates are: Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Panama.

You have to use common sense if any of the Central or South American countries, just as you do in your own country. I am a gringo in Honduras and although, according to the CIA, this country is supposed to be bad, in thirteen years of living and traveling around the country have never had a problem. What does the CIA say about the crime rate in the United States?
