Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Bolivia, Argentina
In the actual mountains the climate is VERY COLD, It's surprising. It can generally reach below 30° F at night.
But all of these countries have a secondary (or even tertiary) climate zone. For example in Peru, Bolivia, Ecuador and Colombia are in the Amazon Basin so that area is VERY HOT. |

The Andes have a crazy way of giving you a familiar feeling no matter which country you are currently in. Once you head "up" them, it gets cold, and the music and the local people seem related, even though the people down in the major cities of each country seem worlds different. Each country, and I have only been to a few of them, has a different climate, but rest assured that once you head up into the Andes, no matter which country you are in, it's going to get cold. Sometimes, VERY COLD! |

It's cold, often wet and the altitude will get you if you try to do things too quickly. Look at some of the Youtube entries for the inca Trail. It made me feel rather smug about taking the train. |
