Puerto Rico. I love it there. But you could also find plenty of people in Florida.

Peru - too dangerous and located in South america
Colombia - located in SOUTH America not CENTRAL America. I think some of you need to look at a map when responding to a question.
Best place to study Spanish in Central America would depend on you. Each country offers lots to do and lots to see. Most of the dialect is fairly the same throughout Central America. You would want to stay safe, but infortunetly wherever you go, if you are an American and stick out then you should always be careful.

Antigua, in Guatemala has wonderful schools for Americans to learn Spanish. It is also a very cheap AND beautiful place to live. Americans are welcome in the city of Antigua and in many areas of Guatemala city (which is less than an hours drive from Antigua). Common sense should be used just as if you were in certain areas of NYC or LA. My husband and I (obvious white Americans) were made to feel very welcome on our recent visit to Guatemala City and Antigua. I most certainly recommend checking into it.

I would have to say Honduras.
My parents are from there and I like thier accent and language.

ok please forget about those answers that say "mexico", "columbia", "puerto rico".... THAT IS NOT CENTRAL AMERICA.

I take it that you are considering: Guatemala, El salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama.

I would say: Choose between Honduras and Costa Rica. I am from honduras and i've been told by some friends in the US that people from those countries don't have a bad accent.

on a downside, costa rica is a bit more expensive than Honduras.

Mexico is technically North America so I would say that Costa Rica would be the best bet because it and Columbia have the most "neutral" Spanish. Chilean Spanish is unusual so I wouldn't recommend it. Guatemala (Antigua?) has the best values in language schools although safety can be an issue if you are travelling around the country.

The best spoken Spanish is in Columbia. Still I would choose Chile.
It's a beautiful and perhaps the most modern country in South America.

acrually if you want the best spanish i will recomend Bogota Colombia

None but if you must go there, then it would be Nicaragua

Costa Rica.

Safest, although not entirely safe.

Nicaragua is heating up for November elections. Infrastructure not so great.

Guatemala was the place to go, but maras, or street gangs are beginning to make things as dangerous as El Salvador.

The only downside to Panama, besides the immense heat, is that you'll learn Spanish with a Panamanian accent.

Just kidding.

Although I am Central American (Nicaraguan) I usually recommend Lima or Cusco, in Peru.

Chile has good programs but is far away. They have decent wines, that can make you learn Spanish faster.
