This is because one year is not exactly equal to 365 days but is about 365-and-a-quarter-day long.

Do me a favor. Tell my brother that there is no February 29 and he will call you a big liar. It is his birthday, even tho it only comes around once every four years. It is called LEAP YEAR.
I'm sure that even you have heard of that one. Have you ever heard the little poem that goes with the months of the year? If not, then here it is:
30 days hath September, April, June and November.
All the rest have 31 except February which has 28 and sometimes 29. |

Every four years is a leap year--an extra day is added to the calendar to correct for minor differences between our record of time and the earth's revolution around the sun. That extra day is added at the end of February, giving us a Feb 29 every four years. The next one will be in 2008. |
