What do I wear in Puntarenas, Costa Rica? |
In 3 weeks I will be vacationing in Puntarenas, CR. I will be staying at the Barcelo Tambor. I have no idea what the weather is like there now and I have to pack soon. I don't want to be too flashy but I still want to be cute. I plan to go to a few clubs, hang out near the beach, and go on a canopy tour.
What type of clothes will I need to bring?
Please help! |

Sorry to disagree with one of the previous answers. The rainiest month historically in Costa Rica is September, followed by October. I went to Barcelo Tambor at the end of October last year for my honeymoon.
The weather was fantastic. We had one downpour which lasted all night, but it was sunny the next morning. If the rainy season pattern is still holding when you come, you can expect warm and sunny mornings and cloudy and rainy afternoons with cool evenings, but nothing really cold. 60 to 70 degrees at night, 75 to 85 degrees during the day. My wife and I loved the beach and the swimming pools. The food was great, the staff courteous and well trained. It was a wonderful experience. I don't know what kind of clothes you like to wear. We spent all of our time in bathing suits, t-shirts and shorts. There aren't really formal clubs where you will need to be decked out. Regular summer wear will do. If you go on a canopy tour, bring some sturdy hiking boots.
Don't forget your Off! You will definitely have to deal with "skeeters" in Barcelo Tambor, especially since it's the rainy season. Some good sunblock or tanning lotion is also essential. You might also need a sweater for an unseasonably chilly night.
Other than that, bring your party attitude and have a great time. If you want any further information about Costa Rica, try the TicosLand.com website. |

I live in Costa Rica and it has been pretty rainy on the pacific coast. The thing is that normally it rains very hard in the afternoon, not that much at night, and the morning is hot and very humid, then the cycle repeats.
Bring clothes that dry easily... breezy skirts, surf shorts, light cotton blouses or t-shirts. Maybe jeans for going out at night, but skirts would be better. Even when it rains and even at night, it's still warm out. I don't think rubber boots are necessary, but rubber thong sandals are convenient because when you get out of the rain they'll dry fast and your feet won't be wet for hours. You wouldn't want to ruin you're vacation by catching a cold! Leave expensive shoes and clothes at home, and I wouldn't recommend any expensive jewelry either.
Jeans would be good, however, for the canopy tour because the harness is hell on your upper thighs if you're wearing short shorts. Since most canopy tours involve a little walk in the jungle, bring sneakers and socks and insect repellent.
And always, always use sun screen! |

It's hot in Puntarenas...you don't want to be flashy...leave the jewellery at home when going to C.R....it will still be raining every day....loose, stylish hippy gear is always in style in C.R. |

I have been to Puntarenas, and it does rain but not too often. It is very warm, so bring shorts and tee shirts. Also bring a raincoat, and maybe a pair of jeans. |

Just dress as you would if you were going to Miami. Most girls from puntarenas wear shorts or skirts and really sexy shirts and sandles because its really hot there and its the beach. Just be ready for some hot weather. But also take something incase it rains.

Bring a few bikinis, shorts, - you can buy cute t-shirts & skirts everywhere that are made of light cotton & acceptable almost everywhere. Also bring a light sweater for when you are in the mountains.
I wore 1 pair jeans,
Brought 6 bikinis, 2 pr. shorts & a towel
purchased 3 sarongs & several t-shirts while there |

First and foremost, October is the rainiest month of the season there.
Take items that won't be ruined by humidity.
When it rains, it rains hard, but, then stops with even strong sunshine evident, so that it's still possible to enjoy the beaches.
I've noticed (as a personal observation), that Costa Rican women tend to dress a little more formal than their "Gringa" counterparts.
Rather than bother with items and have the extra weight to contend with, it's better to buy what you need in Costa Rica. I'm talking about things like umbrellas, flashlight, rubber boots, etc., or whatever else you MIGHT have considered taking that's not an expensive item.
Last advice: DO NOT OVERPACK!!!
And enjoy yourself. (You'll love Costa Rica.) |
