What do i need to take travelling? Help!!?

Hi! I am going travelling to South America in April and i don't know what to take? I love all my lotions and potions and smellys but know i wont be need much. Can i get shampoo, conditioner and moisturisers out there? Also do they dress up to go out in the evenings or is it very casual and relaxed! Help! Thanks.

Make copies of your passport and stick one in every possible pocket. Your wallet, your purse, your shoe. You do not want to be without this.

At least one pair of good dancing shoes, a warm coat if you're visiting high elevations, and good walking/hiking shoes. Some books in English, especially if you plan on busing it. And a guide-book. I recommend Lonely Planet: South America on a Shoestring. Oh and bring a light sarong instead of a towel. It will dry much faster and won't pick up a mildewy smell if you're forced to shove it wet into a backpack when you head for your next destination!

I also would never leave the country without a big roll of duct tape. You never know when that will come in handy.

Top prioties:

Money (obviously)
A camera (for proof that you actually went)
Shoes (all types. you never know where you might end up)
Your passport/Flight tickets (otherwise the others are just a waste of time
someone else (cos you don't wanna be a loner on holiday by themself)
And clothes (just bring casual stuff. Americans aren't all that bothered about what they wear. Bring one or two really fancy stuff though just in case)

you can get stuff like shampoo out their in local shops.
When i went to Texas i wore nice tops and skinny jeans when i went out with bangles and stuff.

also i would take plug adaptors because they don't have the same
plugs as we do so just check what size you need.

Also get some good suncream, factor 50 + otherwise you will burn to a crisp.

and some credit notes, they are in case you loose and dollars then you will have some back up money. these are available in the post office / M&S. . .

Based on my traveling experience the best advice I can give is to take whatever you want but keep your luggage lite. Nothings worse than trying to carry heavy bags in a hot and humid country.

im sure that you can get all your bits and bobs there - its not the third world you know.

i would however take a good book.
