I think its nothing special. It IS extremely overrated. San Jose is one of the ugliest cities i have even seen and Costa Ricans try TOO hard to downplay all the crime and tourist scams that go on there, they are afraid that if people know they wont visit anymore. I have seen some of the most horrible things in that country. |

I loved Costa Rica. Very beautiful country and I liked the people.
Yes it is heavily touristed but I didn't think it was that bad. And its true that there is nice rainforest in lots of other places, but in Costa Rica it is much easier and cheaper to see. You don't need guides or lodges and unlike some other countries, crime is fairly low and its a fairly relaxed place to visit. |

It is true...of all the countries in Central America, Costa Rica seems to have the most tourist development (and all of the good and bad that goes along with it). But, it is a beautiful country with friendly people and rich with wildlife and nature. It's a fun place to visit. However, if you want a more rugged/off the beaten track adventure...it would be best to pick a different Central American country. |

They are pompuos, arrogant people, they named themselfs the switzerland of centroamerica, please!!! just because they haven't had problems "politically" and i don't hate costaricans, i just think they mistreat the rest of centralamerican people. get a frigging clue people you still a tird worl country period. |

pure marketing...
you can find more intriguing rainforests in the Amazonic region. More beautiful scenery in the Andes, and better surf in a few places like Panama or Montañita (Ecuador)...
