Very safe, I go there all the time and never have any problems. The unsafe areas are well-known in Sao Paulo. It can be helpful to know some of the Portuguese language. It is easy to learn and people will love you for it.

Also, the food, weather, people, geography, beaches, mountains, amazon are all quite amazing.

It is safer than most cities in the U.S. where the murder rate is much higher (Houston, Chicago, Detroit, LA all have higher crime rates).

Of course its safe! They speak portugese.. I went there last year and it is incredible.. Went to Rio, my wife and I absolutely loved the "Christ the Redeemer" statue which looks over the whole of Rio... As well as that the beaches are fantastic, the weather is perfect, the people are friendly and the food is great!

I would advise Brazil to anyone..
