Chavez has done great things for the poor people of Venezuela, according to government sponsored newspapers which he controls, for all intents and purposes. Some foolish people actually believe it's true.

I spent time in El Indio slum in the mid 90's. It wasn't that bad, the houses were of decent construction and had nice amenities inside. Certainly not a great place, but very possible to live a decent lifestyle. I doubt Chavez has imporved anything except for his friends and realtives.

Chavez has a lot of money to spend in propaganda and is buying the opinions of neighbor nations. Who is going to disagree with him? Cuba? Bolivia, Ecuador? Argentina? As long as he keeps giving those countries money, they're going to talk wonders about him.

As for the poor, they are still poor, nothing has changed. If all the money he spends on other countries were given to Venezuelan people, all Venezuelans would be millionaires.

The middle class are the ones that have to battle through all this: the poor have always been poor and with Chavez will remain poor, the rich are becoming richer and can leave the country is things toughen up. The middle class man that works hard and has been able to buy a house or a car, is afraid to lose everything as Chavez does not believe in private property.

Poor Venezuela, it deserves a better and saner president...

Saludos

Having spoken to many Venezuelans, so far much of what He has done is for the good. He has upset a lot of the land owning rich because they have the most to lose. However there is a darker side to communism which will come out as He tightens up on freedom to travel, change money and so on. He has also made scary noises about the children being property of the state.
I think whilst He has so much money to spend He will maintain His huge grass roots support. Who doesn't love Santa Claus! I just hope He doesn't go to far down the crazy dictator root like Mugabe or such like.

I think right now what he is doing for the poor is good, but we have to wait and see if his intentions are positive in the long run.................

Venezuela isn't a real country anyway.

It's part of disney world or something isn't it?
