Venezuela has all types of weather, so you have to chose where you want to go. If you want to hit the beach, you can go to Isla de Margarita. Tourism is well developed there. There is also another island, thats a national park, called Los Roques. The whole island is just amazing. Los Cayos, or Morrocoi is a great option too... Those are the most beautiful beaches I've seen in my life so far. If you want to go see the mountains, you have Los Andes (Merida, La puerta, el pico del aguila, etc). In the northeastern coast, you can find "los medanos de coro" its like a sand dessert worth seeing. And last, its Canaima. We have the tallest rainfall in the world, called el salto angel., Its in the forest. There a more places to go and visit.. but thats what I can tell you know.
Donts? I wouldnt go to Caracas, since its the capital, and it tends to get dangerous if you are not a local. Mugglers abound :-( |

The above answers are very good. I have been there a few times with my husband, who is a native. Isla de Margarita is absolutely amazing...anyone who wants to experience Venezuela must go hear. I have also been to the city many times. I really love it there. I agree it could be unsafe, but if you are smart and use common sense, there are many great places to visit. Venezuela is a great country! |

The BEST part of Venezuela is wow there's SO much I love about it, the weather is great, there are SO many wonderful things to see and do (I LIVE in Venezuela and I feel like I'm on permenant vacation, when I lived in the USA I hardly ever got tan, but here, I'm outside SO much I swear you wouldn't know me if you hadn't seen me since I got here). I love the warm weather (I live near the beach in Puerto la Cruz). It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL here, the mountains, and the rain forest, the beaches, oh so much to brag about. Things I don't like, not a lot of people speak english (I was stupid in High School I took french for 7 yrs, I've lived in Germany, and I don't speak German, and now I live in Venezuela, and I don't speak spanish... but I'm learning FAST), also the cleanliness... or rather lack of it, you have to watch what you eat (like fruits and vegetables) the bathrooms are almost inadequate, and GROSS, and unfortunately the Venezuelans aren't too good about keeping their BEAUTIFUL environment beautiful, there's trash all over the ground, the beaches on the main land are dirty (and the islands aren't that much better). It's SUCH a shame for such a WONDERFUL place! But to let you know how I feel the positives outweigh the negatives a million times over (or I wouldn't chose to live here, my parents work here and while my husband is deployed to Iraq with the US Army for one year, I and my two children are living with my parents, I OWN my home and still have it so I don't HAVE to live with my parents, I'm am here only because it's nice to be with family, not so lonely, but honestly screw my parents I LOVE being here!!! When my husband returns he's going to have a hard time convincing me to go back to the USA... especially in late November, when it's COLD in the USA, and then when he DOES get me in the USA he's going to have a hard time from keeping me from coming back here ALL the time... we already have plans to be here for the Christmas holidays for at LEAST two weeks, I'm going to try to convince him to stay for 3, and if he agrees to that I'll try for 4!!! :) |

i used to live in San Cristobal (State of Tachira) near the western border. It's a great city- up in the Andes - great weather. there are great small towns near there like Capacho.
Other than that, Merida is great because it's geared to tourists. You can go paragliding (take Dramamine first!) or go up the world's longest cable car system to the top of Venezuela's highest mountain. Or you can try 1000 flavors of ice cream.
Hope this is helpful. |
