I came to Costa Rica on vacation almost 4 years ago and never left. There is so much to do here you simply never tire of exploring. If you like to do the typical tourist things, there are lots of everything included hotels where you never have to leave. You can enjoy the beach, pools, food and lodgings in security and serenity. They will also arrange tours for you. Most of the large hotels have an office that will arrange anything you want.
If you want to rough it, you can go into the jungle and mountains and have the type of trek you see on TV, insects and all, hahaha! It's up to you. Do you want to see mountains, volcanoes, waterfalls, rivers, oceans, beaches, flora, fauna, etc? Believe it or not, in Costa Rica, you can do it all in one day, including seeing the sunrise on a Caribbean Beach and the Sunset on a Pacific Ocean Beach. It's up to you do decide what you want to do.
However, if you don't like the rain, come from December to April. If you need information about tours, hotels, etc., go to the TicosLand.com website. It's in Spanish and English. |

If you like large resorts and lots of tourists then go to the North West area. If you like a quiet, out of the way place with small hotels pristine beaches and walking around in a swim suit all day, then go to the Southern Carribean area below Limon. Cahuita is great as is Puerto Viejo. This area is very much like Hawaii was 50 years ago. |

It is a great vacation place. An accessible country with lots to do, and small enough to travel around if you like. It is safe and used to tourists if that worries you.

I'm planning on heading back to Costa Rica for vacation after living there for two years. I recommend Northern Costa Rica. The Arenal Volcano is amazing. Even if the weather doesn't permit great viewing, you can't go wrong with the hot springs resorts located near the town of La Fortuna. Check out my guide to the Northern Zone and enjoy your trip! |

C.R is an amazing Country!!! Its cheap, has reliable transport, extremely diverse, food is delicious and the people there are extremely friendly :) I would recommend going to "Tamarindo" if you don't have much time which is in the Northern part of Costa Rica.
Downside is the Men and domineering and some times "tease" you when you walk down the street-just ignore it..and a lot of taxi drivers are rip offs! |
