To what group of people?

To those adventurous souls Costa Rica is famous for its national parks (even though there are much better ones in other countries for extremely adventurous people) and its biodiversity.

To perverts Costa Rica is famous for legal prostitution and child prostitution (especially since the age of consent is only 15, the youngest in all of Central America).

To surfers Costa Rica is famous for its beaches and waves.

To pickpocketers Costa Rica is famous for receiving a large number of tourists yearly.

In Costa Rica, something you can't get anywhere else is an endemic species of plant, flower or type of animal. Aside from that, you can get the same things in many other countries.

Costa Rica is famous for its people, peace loving people, for not having any army, for a Nobel peace price president, for its coffee, sold around the world, for its nature, for having around 850 species of birds (one tenth of the world's total), reptiles and amphibians like no other part of the world.
For having beaches on both oceans, mountains, rivers, rain forests, volcanoes, etc etc.

?
You can get the attitude of the Costa Ricans (Ticos). It's very positive, friendly and full of life. Other than that, just go with a good travel book (Lonely Planet-Costa Rica) is the best.

The rain forest is the most valuable and special part about this country. Being so narrow and located between two oceans in the tropics means that the rain is abundant. There are many conservation efforts within the country by the local government and foreign investors. You may NOT cut down a tree in Costa Rica anymore and you may not even take fallen trees from within the habitat without proper permission from the state. The Guanacaste region was deforested for farming and now they suffer drought causing the forest to become Dry Tropical. Now about 25% of the country is protected land.

You will find information about the development of Costa Rica and how environmentalism has shaped the tour industry on this site.

Basically, most important of all is that the country is small, BUT has different kinds of environments close together. If you were willing to travel, you could be at the sunny beach at 9am in Guanacaste (northwest), at 1pm in a tropical rainforest with hot springs in San Carlos (north), at 3pm in the capital San Jose with a mild weather (March, center), and at 5pm in cold mountain temperature (5 Celsius) in Cartago (east). Most tourists would be better off avoiding larce cities, because they´re not really special. Food is cheap compared to other countries, and there are WAY less guns here than in the U.S. Restaurants, supermarkets, and shopping malls are OK, basic. Electronics, cars, and other commodities are more expensive, though.

not army at all,we love the peace philosophy,we are the only nation in central america that use the budget for education purposes not for militar purposes,so we have the highest level on education in the area, our attitude is to make you feel nice!our country is small but we have a lot of ethnic groups like:natives, white, chinese, black etc...so we have more tolerance to the intercultural relations well just come and visit us!
