El Salvador has many delicacies! some of the more popular are:

Yuca Frita con Chicharrones - Fried Cassava with pork rinds. They are extremely delicious.

El Salvador lies on the Pacifc. The seafood is fresh and amazingly tasty. Parrillada de Mariscos and mariscadas - A seafood platter and a seafood stew, respectively. You'll lick the plate and ask for more...

Our tamales are to be experienced. They are cooked in banana leaves, with big chunks of pork or chicken and vegetables. We also have sweet corn tamales. Very delicious!

Shuco. It is a corn meal drink made of purple corn with beans and pumpkin seed sauce. It is eaten as a meal.

Also, there are many atoles (hot corn meal drinks) in El Salvador. Atol de elote, atol de piña, Chilate con nuegados.

Local sausages. Longaniza de Nahuizalco is extremely popular.

The drinks can be quite an experience. The horchata is made from the seeds of the Morro tree, and not from rice and milk like the Mexican version.

Don't forget the tropical fruits!

My husband is from El Salvador and ohhhh my goodness his daddy came and brought all kind of food from there man! It was truly the best food i'd ever eaten. I loved pupusas so much I got his aunt to show me how to make them. Hey this white girl can sure make awesome pupusas!
