For all those shallow minds who put up comments like GOOGLE COSTA RICA! and JUST LIKE ANY OTHER FAMILY WORLDWIDE! Nobody needs your cheeky attitudes when answering a child's question
Actually family life is very different based on culture and standards of living, a family in Costa Rica for example is NOT even the same as a family in Nicaragua and those two countries are right next door. Costa Rica's standard of living is significantly better than other Central American countries. This is due partially to the fact that the new constitution of 1949 abolished all national defences (a.k.a. the military). There are local police forces and that is it. The government chose to put that money into education and healthcare, so all children receive free education and there is national healthcare coverage just like in CANADA, not like in the United States where citizens have to pay for insurance or a nasty healthcare bill. MMMMM two countries who are right next to eachother with different social services, who new!
Also the rise of eco-tourism has made Costa Rica prosperous and today 26% of the population is employed by the tourism industry alone! Again, this is unlikely the case in many other Latin cultures where parents are going primarily to work on farms in the hot sun all day, and their children too. In fact the lower paid farm workers in Costa Rica are primarily Nicaraguans who come to help during harvest and make better money than they can at home.
there is a great deal of cultural information here.

CIA factbook online has some good info and so does wikipedia.org
Best of luck to you |

Good for you being curious...learning about other cultures is very important! And not all family living situations are the same...we all learn different morals & values from our parents & family members... Cr people are awesome, they are TICO and EDUCATION is a very very BIG priority in their lives...Tico lifestyle is somewhat to be 'amazed' at, totally appreciated...I have so much respect for Tico lifestyle...they concentrate on the 'simple' ways, living with the basics, learning & working hard! Very 'kind' people too...always pleasant & willing to help. They do not place emphasis on 'materialistic things' like we do so terribly in the USA...although many may have things, nice things, but even more Tico families have less & live happily with less...they are also very 'clean' people...and if ever you see the rainy season they go through for 6 months...they still manage to have clean shoes, clothes & floors! AMAZING! Wonderful people, and people who we in the US should & can learn a whole lot from! I hope some TICO people will answer you out here... Pura~Vida~ the Tico greeting, indeed holds wonderful & true meaning!! Take care~ |

One very important aspect of Costa Rican families, is that they have very strong family ties and values. Almost every celebration is family oriented, and young people live with their parents until they get married.
Education is a very important part of our lives, and everyone can go to public schools.
Parents go to work, usually from 8 am to 5 pm. But many women stay at home to take care of their children. |

They are like any family anywhere. Children get up and go to school which is state funded & free. Parents get up and go to work.
I'm sure you could get all the information you need if you Googled Costa Rica. |
